New for 2005

The WitnessTree Wellness Program

Life is not a smooth, straight super-highway with no chuckholes and all the signs pointing in the right direction.  Life is a place with bumps ad wrong turns and occasionally even tragedy.  In fact, life is a situation over which we often have little or no control.  But while we may not have control over many of the circumstances of life, we certainly have control over how we prepare for them and how we respond to them once they have happened.

Beannacht

On the day when the weight deadens
on your shoulders and you stumble,
may the clay dance to balance you.

And when your eyes freeze
behind the grey window
and the ghost of loss gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green, and azure blue,
come to awaken in you a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays in the curach of thought
and a  stain of ocean blackens beneath you
may there come across the waters
a  path of yellow moonlight to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.

And so may a slow wind
work these words of love around you,
an invisible cloak to mind your life.

This blessing (beannacht is “blessing” in Gaelic), is from Anam Cara, by the Irish poet John O’Donohue.  Anam Cara is also Gaelic, meaning “soul friend” –a person who knows you inside and out, your best and worst, and still loves and accepts you, and blesses you on your way.  Everyone needs at least one soul friend, because when you are with them, you feel utterly safe, completely at peace, you are Home.  We are truly blessed when we find our anam cara to be the heart of God.
